Welcome to AP Spotlight. Every month, we’ll pick an AP Creator of the Month and interview them, and they send us a little video intro with some quick tips for other AP Creators.
For March, our AP Creator of the Month is Sophie Ladder Let’s meet them…
How’d you get started making adult content?
In early 2015 I met Brittany Jane, who at the time was a camgirl. I did photography, and she was looking for someone to shoot her, so I began just by shooting scenes for her. That morphed into this project we called Gal Pals (galpalfilms.com) where we made queer and trans porn and shared the profits amongst the performers. Nowadays Brittany has retired from porn and Gal Pal Films is pretty much defunct as I focus my energies on my own content.
How long have you been making content?
I’ve been producing it for others since 2015, but I’ve been really making my own content since about halfway into 2017.
What inspires your content?
The porn I want to see in the world
What’s your favorite content you’ve ever made?
Oh this is a hard question! I have so many scenes I’m proud of I don’t know if I can choose a favorite, but Hardcore Hookup With Jude might be my favorite scene I shot in 2019.
How do you promote your brand, and what’s the most successful method(s) for you?
Twitter is my largest platform for promotion. I tweet out gifs from my scenes daily on a promo twitter with links, which is my main advertising method. I make sure to keep a mix of advertising new scenes and old scenes. Just because I shot it a year or two ago doesn’t mean I have to stop advertising it and making money on it!
What’s your trick to balancing your daily life?
Oh if I had any I would certainly tell you.
If you could give a new creator advice, what would it be?
- Judge yourself against yourself, not other creators. Just try to keep improving.
- Watermark everything, and keep your username consistent and easy to remember across all platforms.
- Think before you post any pictures to make sure personal information isn’t visible in the background (mail, medications, the buildings in your neighborhood even)
If you make customs – what’s the weirdest request and did you do it?
Out of all the weird custom requests out there I feel like I haven’t gotten anything especially unusual, but maybe that’s just because I’m used to it. I had someone pay me to edge my partner with a hitachi while I ate chocolate cake xD
How do you film? Any special lighting equipment/camera? Feel free to share some of your tips.
My setup typically has two cameras on tripods for different angles, and at least 3 lights. I’ll generally point a few soft-boxes at the bed and then point a light at the ceiling for some bounce lighting. That’s my #1 tip here, bounce some light off the ceiling. If there’s a shadow on the wall behind you try putting a light close to the ceiling (if the ceiling is white / light colored) to fill in the space behind you with light. I just go around and adjust all my lights until there are as little shadow as possible.
What do you like about using AP as a platform?
One of my favorite features of the AP platform is the bundles feature! I have lots of great video bundles where you can get lots together at a discount. And of course, the 75% payout is always nice.
Has your brand evolved since you started? If so, how?
My brand has changed so much since I first started I wonder what all my followers from 2015 think of me now. My brand started out as the videographer and public face of Gal Pal Films. I was pretty submissive when I first got on twitter and tumblr, and now everyone knows me as a harsh domme. Which fits me much better, but it’s been one hell of a transition from there to here!
What are you watching on Netflix right now?
The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina! It is SO good, honestly a lot more than I expected. Now I’m completely hooked
We love seeing how many different Creators you collaborate with. Any advice for people on how to meet up with fellow SW to shoot content?
Don’t be afraid to reach out and ask people that you want to work with. Even if they have 10x as many followers as you, even if they’re “too cool” for you, just ask!! You will be surprised how often you will get a yes. I see a lot of newer sex workers struggling with this, feeling like they’re not good enough / big enough / famous enough to ask person X or Y to work together. Worst case scenario is that you get a no, which isn’t that bad. Best case you work with someone you admire!
Beyond that trust your gut; if you get a bad vibe from someone listen to that. Most people are cool, but some aren’t.
You have over 100 videos on AP! Do you have a favorite type of video to shoot?
I love being dominant so those are my favorite type of video to shoot.
How did you come up with your stage name?
I decided on Sophie first before I came up with a last name because I really liked the name Sophie. The last name of Ladder was inspired by a Deadmau5 song “Sofi Needs a Ladder”, though I can also pretend it’s because I’m so tall
