AP Creator of the Month : Minnie Scarlet

Spread the love

Welcome to AP Spotlight. Every month, we’ll pick an AP Creator of the Month and interview them, and sometimes we’ll get some quick tips for other AP Creators.

For June, our AP Creator of the Month is Minnie Scarlet! ✨

Minnie Scarlet is a multifaceted performer who has over 10 years in independent content creation. She’s passionate about making people laugh and cum–very serious business!

Let’s get to know Minnie more! 🥰

Hi Minnie, how’d you get into creating adult content?

Curating aesthetics (think Tumblr, etc.) was always fun for me. Eventually it turned into photoshoots, which were a real way for me to pay my rent! And believe it or not, find community.

What’s your favorite content that you’ve shot?

“Love You To Death” is a fantasy-based short film that is like an adult, live-action Tim Burton movie. I love how romantic it is! And getting to wear “undead” makeup for the role. That, and a few scenes that I went out of my way to produce are my all time faves for sure. Projects definitely come with unique pros and cons. Some scenes carry sentimental value while some shoots are a little more about looks coming together, or the casting even.

If you make customs, what’s the weirdest request you’ve received? And did you shoot it?

The weirdest to me is when someone gets the opportunity to direct a movie starring a model of their choice, and yet are able to find a reason to complain! Can’t relate!!! I personally find it super hot if a baddie will literally produce, shoot, and edit my fantasy… Even the most vanilla, normal video could be requested… but if ungrateful or rude in the interaction while booking the actual request? I’m not shooting it. But the “weird” request where I burp while being sexy? Yeah, I’ll shoot it, haha.

What do you like about using APClips as a platform so far?

APClips allows creators to take a larger percentage of sales than other sites! Which allows me to sell content a little cheaper than other places, and take home more. They also have real people to help whenever there is an issue–something that can be challenging with other platforms. It’s also comforting to know my content won’t end up on weird third party sites when I upload them to APClips.

What are five words to describe your brand?

I wish I could ask any of my peers or audience to answer this for me, haha! I’ll say: creative, adaptable, quirky, eclectic, and…personal?

Has your brand evolved since you started? If so, how?

Oh man! I’ve been an indie performer since I’ve started so as I changed, so did my brand. My origins include the “inked” niche, Tumblr, webcamming and Suicide Girls-esque websites; and for years, I did softcore, only working with women. I played around with looks, styles, and genres, always trying to keep a persona connected to the “real” me. Despite my content eventually changing, it’s never been bound to any confines. When I was around 20 years old, I wrote an article for Vice talking about racial fetishization in the adult industry. I did standup comedy for a short time too. One of the joys of staying indie was there was no one making decisions for me so whatever project I wanted to do, I did it. (For better or for worse, lol.) Sometimes I regret not having more definitive separation in my brand(s) so it wouldn’t be so alarming on days I just want to make rent, but the audience is used to me just wanting to make a statement! And vice versa. Nowa

What’s your trick to balancing your daily life?

Do a little something you have to do, so you can do what you want to do. One project for the finished product to be consumed, one project for the journey. One thing for rent, one thing for your soul. It’s poetic to say, but keeping things in check is a huge challenge for me.

What are your go-to TV shows to binge-watch?

I love trash like Jersey Shore. A Simple Life, unfortunately 90 Day Fiance. Definitely escapism so my problems feel minimal in comparison, I’m sorry! I loved White Lotus season 2 because the sex workers won the entire season!

What’s a meme you’d use to describe yourself?

Crying Kim Kardashian face in bed. No other comment.

As a queer creator, how do you see the intersection of your identity and your work?

As a queer person whos dated all genders, I was already familiar with people judging if I was gay enough, if I was fake-straight, whatever. Well, being a G/G and solo-only performer in the beginning taught me that people had attachment to not only the work I was doing, but the work I wasn’t doing. People felt I was a better person for not working with penises (men and lesbians alike, for different reasons), which forced me to see how what I did with my vagina was, in fact, political. There are a lot of politics that become louder when your sex life is perceived to be public. But like most elitist concepts, it ends up actually alienating vulnerable groups. I won’t pretend to be the most victimized person in these situations, but as an observer it’s hard to ignore how purity and heteronormative culture ironically permeated the queer scene with labels like “gold star lesbian” which was meant to put cis women who had only ever had sex with cis women at the highest honor.

As a queer creator, how do you celebrate your own uniqueness, both in and out of your work?

Well, I think for a lot of people, it’s hard to define me, on or off camera. Neither my personal life or my content journey has been the cookie cutter straight, gay, or bi experience Sex work is so fun because I’ve gotten to express so much through things that seem silly. There is a fluidity that gets to exist within femme friendships in sex works that is so intimate and unique that I’ve yet to find outside… But perhaps that’s just the gay in me talking… haha.

How do you use your platform to uplift and support others in your community, particularly within the AAPI and LGBTQ+ spaces?

In 2022, one of my best friends and I created an organization, Avril Heals, to foster community among folks like us, who had experienced harm from gender or race based harm. We did so after losing a loved one to suicide, who happened to also be a brown, queer sex worker. For these reasons, Avril Heals intentionally centers Black and brown indigenous People of Color, queer folks, and of course, sex workers in spaces where we practice creative writing, different forms of visual arts, and more for free. There is no one-size-fits-all, so we take into account how mainstream community spaces often exclude members of these vulnerable groups when there is any intersection or overlap to create a sense of belonging and support.

How has your cultural background influenced your content and your creative process?

If ever a cultural element within my adult content, it’s paired with considerations of the implications outside of the porn industry. It’s funny too, because people really complain about who Asian female performers shoot with, but they hardly buy the scenes with Asian male performers. It poses an interesting question about whether porn is a mirror, or an epicenter where things start. Not to sound old and washed, but when I started shooting, there were only a handful of other alternative Asian femme models I knew of. Something about that made speaking about culture feel innately serious if it wasn’t a sexualized fetish, or joke. In the last few years the amount of Asian performers quadrupled, if not more! I wonder if the need to “speak up” about certain things would’ve been as prominent with more community and representation among us back then. I’m much more likely to do a mukbang in space buns, or openly celebrate Lunar New Year because it doesn’t feel like token representation anymore. Hopefully that makes sense to the reader.

Do you have any advice for creators who are just starting?

Find your community. I’m not kidding. That’s actually advice for pretty much anyone, but even more so when you’re doing anything potentially life-changing. Do your research. Save your money. Have clear objectives and boundaries. That
